Bro. George joined the Order in August 1971 as a member of the Lord Balcarres Lodge. He has since served as a Lodge Trustee for over 35 years.
In 1972 they raised him to the 2nd Degree and he immediately became active in Chorley PGL. He was raised by them to the 3rd Degree in January 1976 and to the 4th Degree in May 1981.

In 1995 he became a founder member of the Chorley Roll of Honour Assembly, serving as their Director of Ceremonies. In 1996 he served as Vice President and he was then elected to serve as President for 1997.

More recently he once again became active in the Provincial Grand Lodge of what is now the Chorley and Blackburn Province and has been elected to serve as Deputy Provincial Grand Primo for 2012.

In October 2011 he had Honourary Membership conferred upon him, signifying 40 years of dedicated service to the Order.

He has for many years served on the committee of the East Ward Conservative Club where the Lord Balcarres Lodge holds its meetings and has served as the President of the Club for 15 years.

He is also an active member of the Royal British Legion and is the Standard Bearer for the Coppull Branch. This requires him to parade on such important occasions as Remembrance Day.
